For ages 9-12. This is an introductory, technique-based course, exploring dance and movement designed to improve the quality of performance in musical theatre. An excellent precursor to Mainstage choreography. No dance experience required.
* Proper dancewear will be required for all classes. You will need to ensure that you wear loose, comfortable clothing, appropriate shoes, and bring a water bottle.
For ages 13-18. This class is for those who want a fun and energetic dancing experience learning choreography and improving technique and performance in various dance forms. Some dance experience an asset but not required. Students will perform at the annual CSOPA Spring Festival, 01-03 June 2012.

By audition only; under 19 years old. For the more advanced students, this class focuses on modern dance styles and technique using Contemporary and Broadway inspiration. this is a challenging two-hour class which pushes students to work extra hard on their own personal technique while improving dance skills and improvisation. Students will need to learn original choreography quickly and precisely and maintain high level of performance quality. Students will perform at the annual CSOPA Spring Festival, 01-03 June 2012.

This class is a full body workout that improves your coordination, balance, alignment and flexibility, and strengthens the body’s core which directly enriches performance capabilities and physical potential. No experience required.

Adding on to students’ (ages 8-12) knowledge of stage basics and character development, students will now join with a partner(s) to rehearse a scene. The focus in this class will be on partner work, i.e. listening, reacting, trust, vocal and physical dyamics, and support of the other. A final in-class performance will showcase scenes that students have worked.

A fun-filled class in which students (ages 5 – 12) will be given the opportunity to express themselves creatively while rehearsing a short musical theatre piece to present to family and friends at the end of the course. Emphasis will be put on singing and acting techniques, as well as teamwork, self-expression and confidence. Online registration is open.
A games-based program for children ages 6 and 7 looking to explore musical theatre. Through dramatic play, we learn basic music and theatre terminology while playing with different characters and singing songs. The focus of the program is on developing basic musical skills such as pitch matching and steady beat, as well as building confidence, body awareness, group cooperation & of course having fun. There will be a small family & friend in-house presentation at the end of each term that will highlight concepts covered in the classes. Online registration is open.
This class is an introduction to musical theatre choreography for ages 6-7. Different than a “dance class”, this class focuses on how musical theatre combines dancing and acting to build entertaining characters in a show. Students will prepare an age & ability appropriate choreography routine with music from actual musical productions. The final class will be a presentation for friends and family to enjoy at our studio. Online registration is open.

Participants ages 8-12 will be introduced to the exciting world of theatre by working on their acting skills through a variety of fun theatre games. Students will be encouraged to develop their imagination, creativity and self-confidence in a relaxed atmosphere. This class is ideal for students who have little to no acting experience and want to explore their dramatic side without the pressure of a final performance. The final scheduled class will be open to family and friends to watch (and possibly participate!) Online registration is open.
Now that students (age 8-12) have learned stage basics, it is time to start looking into character development. In this course, students will be given a character that they will study throughout the course using various acting techniques and tools. Students will not only learn how to identify their own habitual patterns that identify their unique personality, but also learn how to develop these patterns for their character, creating a new and distinct body and voice. A final in-class performance will showcase monologues students have worked on to show off their character.
Presented in partnership with the Chilliwack Academy of Music. Participants ages 9-12 will prepare vocal jazz standard repertoire with a focus on style, attitude and tuning of light harmonies. Soloing and improvisation will be explored based on participants’ abilities. The course will also focus on hit Broadway choruses and small ensemble numbers. Dramatization of musical numbers will be encouraged through focus & strength in vocal performance. Classes will culminate in performances at the CSOPA Spring Festival, 01-03 June 2012.
